Preach the Knowledge You Have Received

It is described in the 11th Canto of Srimad Bhagavatam that just before leaving the planet, Lord Sri Krishna gave personal instructions to Uddhava. Uddhava was a very very intimate and confidential servant of Lord Krishna. Sometimes it is said, his bhakti is almost - not quite - on the level of the gopis of Vrndavana. And he was very very dear to Krishna. When Uddhava was here, they were practically inseparable. Krishna did something to Uddhava which Uddhava found very hard to accept. Krishna does that to His confidential servants sometimes. What did He do? Uddhava wanted to go back to Godhead with Krishna, but Krishna said: “No. You stay! I’m going, but you have to stay.” It was too much for Uddhava. He broke down in utter transcendental separation emotions. But Krishna was strong. And He said: “I have a mission for you. Go to Badarikashrama, and speak to the sages there. I’ll teach you this knowledge. And you take that knowledge and give it to them. And they will take it all over the world.” It was a big, big service for Uddhava. That’s why the 11th Canto is called the Uddhava Gita. Krishna spoke very elevated, confidential, philosophical topics on the process of bhakti. What He taught Arjuna in the Bhagavat Gita, He took that same knowledge and went deeper into those principles, and took the highest practical, spiritual, philosophical teachings, and gave them to Uddhava. And Uddhava followed the instructions of Krishna, although in his heart it was very painful to be separated from the Lord. But this is what the Lord wanted. The Lord wants His message spread all over, not only in the world, but in the universes. And that’s what Srila Prabhupada is saying here:
“Those who are like Uddhava, those who have transcendental knowledge, those who have been given transcendental knowledge, have a responsibility.”
So, take on that responsibility and preach the knowledge you have received.
